With the completion of the project of "Research on The Application of Chinese Herbal Medicine in the Prevention and Control of Marine Fish Diseases" undertaken by the Key Laboratory of Mariculture Disease Control of Shandong Institute of Mariculture, and gradually realizing the industrialization production in Shandong Province, China has a new method in the prevention and control of fish diseases.

Wang Yongqiang, deputy director of the Shandong Institute of Mariculture, told the author: "In the future, fish will not need to use antibiotics when they get sick, but natural Chinese herbs. The development and use of Chinese herbal preparations is expected to completely solve the problem of drug residues in fish products, and can also play a role in strengthening the health of fish."

  Study: Formulation combined with efficacy

In recent years, the aquaculture of Marine fish along the coast of Shandong province has developed rapidly. Both the offshore cage aquaculture and factory aquaculture have formed a considerable scale, especially the aquaculture of flounder fish. Due to its high price, good quality and broad market, it has become the leading species of Marine fish farming in Shandong Province. However, with the expansion of the scale of aquaculture and the increase of species, as well as the deterioration of the Marine environment, the species and incidence of fish disease also showed a significant increase trend. The study found that bacterial pathogens caused by the disease is one of the Marine fish caused by a large number of deaths.

The members of the project team first carried out a detailed investigation and study on the aquaculture and the incidence of Marine fish, and studied and analyzed the common diseases, frequently-occurring diseases, the causes and the incidence rules of Marine fish.

After the investigation and study and practice, the team found that ocean fish bacterial disease cause most associated with vibrio, and many of the fish diseases are associated with the disorder of the digestive system, ascites, abdominal distension and hemorrhagic diseases early all have different degrees of symptoms of digestive system, this kind of disease is also up to the level of antibiotic drug use. Based on the above investigation results and the difficulties in the prevention and treatment of Marine fish diseases, the project team formulated the research direction of taking Chinese herbal medicine preparations as the breakthrough point for digestive tract diseases.

Based on the overall concept of TCM and the theory of syndrome differentiation, the project team finally developed three Chinese herbal preparations, "Yuwei Kang", "Yuchang 'an" and "Yujian Powder", for the prevention and treatment of bacterial diseases in the aquaculture of sea flounder. In the experimental range, Chinese herbal medicine has obvious curative effect on diseases such as dyspepsia, enteritis, ascites and abdominal distension of sea flounder, which is better than antibiotics such as oxytetracycline. The experimental results show that the combination of Chinese herbal medicine and microecological preparation can significantly improve the curative effect, reduce the dosage of medicine by 50%, accelerate the recovery of digestive system diseases, and reduce the recurrence of diseases.

Return: social benefits and ecological benefits double harvest

In addition to production tests, "Yuweicang" and "Yuchang 'an" have also been expanded in more than 30 breeding units and farmers. According to follow-up visits, the effective rate of the treatment of fish diseases such as dyspepsia, enteritis and ascites is close to 100%, and the use of antibiotics has been greatly reduced.

Wang cited data showing that in longkou Base, the key Laboratory of Disease Control and Prevention of Mariculture in Shandong Province, Chinese herbal preparations completely replaced antibiotic drugs, and the use of antibiotic drugs was zero during the three cycles of 120,000 turbot culture. In the first batch, 12,000 turbot were cultured, with a survival rate of 98.26% and a yield of 18.4 kg per square meter. In repeated experiments, the second and third batches of farmed turbot were nearly 50,000 and 60,000 respectively, with a survival rate of 95%~98% and a yield of 18kg ~ 21kg per square meter of cultivated area.

In the breeding production experiment with the prevention technology of Chinese herbal medicine preparation as the main technology, the healthy breeding technology such as the cultivation of high quality seedling, the immunity of Marine fish and the micro-ecology prevention of disease has been comprehensively applied, and the application of these technologies has basically replaced the traditional technology of using a large number of antibiotics to prevent and treat diseases. Combined with the shandong province agricultural science and technology achievement transformation fund project "gram-negative plaice vibrio disease resistance breeding seedling cultivation and health technology", the project team and the technology and the promotion, the expanding experiment project completed generally healthy aquaculture demonstration area of 22000 square meters, technology popularization of 60000 square meters, breeding survival rate above 95%, antibiotic drug usage is reduced by more than 90%.

Wang concluded that the immune system effectively enhanced the defensive ability of Marine fishes. Application of probiotics, Chinese herbal medicine preparation to carry out commercial fish farming during the period of disease prevention and control work, to avoid the long-term use of antibiotics caused by environmental pollution, decrease of the quality of the product and induced resistant strains and other negative effects, further improve the breeding efficiency and safety of aquatic products, to enhance the competitiveness of China's aquatic products in the international market, has a broad social and ecological benefits.

"Next, we will expand the experimental area and application scope, and strengthen the development of pollution-free fishing drugs, mainly Chinese herbal preparations." Wang Yongqiang.
